The International Center for Terrorism Studies at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies presented a special Luncheon Seminar, “The Next Middle East Wars: Lebanon, Gaza and Iran?” at noon on Wednesday, August 18. Panelists  included Prof. Yonah Alexander, Director of ICTS; Amb. Theodore Kattouff (Ret.), Former US Ambassador to Syria and President and CEO, AMIDEAST; Dr. Kenneth Katzman, Specialist in Middle East Affairs, Congressional Research Service; and Dr. Patrick Clawson, Deputy Director for Research, The Washington Institute for Near East Policy. The event was co-sponsored by the Inter-University Center for Terrorism Studies, the Inter-University Center for Legal Studies of the International Law Institute, and the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies’ International Center for Terrorism Studies. Dr. Patrick Clawson, Deputy Director for Research, The Washington Institute for Near East Policy spoke to the key issue:  What will bring about the next war in the Middle East?  According to Clawson, it will not be instigated by a US or Israeli attack on Iran.  It will come as the result of the “ignorant, arrogant and risk-tking” behavior of a leader such as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or Saddam Hussein who have miscalculated  that the US and Israel are in decline or that that they have no red line that cannot be crossed.

Clawson’s address to the panel as well as those of other participants are worth review.  I urge you to watch the program in its entirety.
