3 Things That Won’t Be Settled Soon: Egypt’s Turmoil; US Economic Recovery and Chelsy and Harry.

Posted on February 7, 2011

If things move too quickly in Egypt that can work against success just as surely as moving too slowly.  It is unfortunate that Mubarak cannot bring himself to see that he is the stumbling block to the future.  But as has been said more than once on this site, he is a sick, weak octogenarian and who knows what changes are being carried out daily in his head that have not yet hit the radar.  His obstinacy is a much his age as  his persona.

Barack Obama has been so involved in speaking ex cathedra about the Egyptian uprising that he has had precious little time to devote to the economy. But he’s back on the business luncheon circuit with his emotional generalizations:

President Obama made the case Monday to business leaders that ramping up spending on education and infrastructure will promote economic growth and put the economy back on track.

“We need to out-innovate, out-educate and out-build our competitors,” Obama told the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “We need an economy that’s based not on what we consume and borrow from other nations, but what we make and sell around the world.”

Great.  Instead of gathering a group at the White House for some hard discussions in shirtsleeves, he go to a luncheon to address the Chamber of Commerce.  When was the last time you knew of a Chamber that was effective?  Barack needs a bit more insider information on what is a good tack for the ship of state at this time vis a vis business.

And Chelsea and Harry?  I don’t know about you but I’m exhausted after 8 years of the ups and downs of Kate and Wills.  Chelsy and Harry will just have to do their own thing.  They don’t need to be harassed; we don’t need to be bothered.  The good news is that Chelsy is such an accomplished student of the law as well as being attractive that she really is worth bothering about for a lot of people.  She just could be equally as  important to the Royals as Kate if she signs on.  However, she did stoop to exit a private party over the weekend in the wee hours by hopping into the trunk of a classy Jaguar with Harry.  Kids.

Remember the days when the Russians (Soviets) had 10 year plans and we only had annual reports?  Those days are here again.  We want what we want now and we will again throw caution to the wind to achieve it.  That’s the American way.  We can’t afford that. No state can.

The men and women of Congress need to stop taking pot shots at one another during lunch breaks from behind the statues in the Capitol Hill rotunda.  And the President needs to visit occasionally. Until then all we can  hope is that  Congress Congress grows up to its official function to handle monetary issues and draft legislation.  At this point so many freshmen Congressmen have been studying what they do so they can make a difference  that we have entered another age of enlightenment.  So much knowledge; so little action.  Like a college grad in June.  Get moving; stay moving.  So far so predictable.
