The Moose is Loose Summer Party

Posted on August 4, 2011

A few summers ago a man showed up at our local summer festival with a truckload of animals he had created with a gig saw, some plywood and some paint.  There was this fetching moose….  Already in my late sixties I wondered how I could justify such a purchase and where it was I thought it belonged on my property.  A pink flamingo it was not.

I took him home and placed him in among the bushes.  You saw a hint of moose and a lot of antler – reminded me of the old joke “antlers in the treetops or who goosed the moose.”  Then it came to me.  What if the moose got loose – escaped the yard?  I could organize a party posse.  Here are a few shots of my first Moose is Loose summer party in the yard, in the rain.

Here is the moose who thinks he cannot be seen:

Then the rains and the darkness came:

A florist friend created a wonderful garden flower arrangement and placed it near the loose moose.

We all had fun.  It was like summer camp.  Remembering this I determined to have another Moose is Loose.  Here is the invitation:

What causes pre-dementia adults to have such a gathering and cite it as fun?  We’ve proved we can’t run the country very well and so we are down to organizing the community into themed parties in summer.  I wonder what kinds of parties the Obama organizers will have in future years?  No doubt one theme would be country off the rails or the caboose is loose.

Full report to follow.
