US Is Tanking. Should We Call in the French Foreign Legion?

Posted on October 16, 2011

We the children of the 1950s were a  happy lot.  Plenty of food and fun and parents had jobs.  And we had a sense of well-being because we were protected by a great army.  While our parents watched Victory at Sea scored by Richard Rogers.

we kids were busy with Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion.  Theme music in this case was that scored by the french composer Le Boudin  for the French Foreign Legion.

Now the French king who created the Foreign Legion has perhaps left us a model for Obama to follow today to turn the tide on the Occupy Wall Street gang:

The French Foreign Legion was created by Louis Philippe, the King of the French, on 10 March 1831. The direct reason was that foreigners were forbidden to serve in the French Army after the 1830 July Revolution, so the foreign legion was created to allow the government a way around this restriction.[2] The purpose of the foreign legion was to remove disruptive elements from society and put them to use fighting the enemies of France. Recruits included failed revolutionaries from the rest of Europe, soldiers from the disbanded foreign regiments, and troublemakers in general, both foreign and French. Algeria was designated as the foreign legion’s home.

The foreign legion was primarily used, as part of the Armée d’Afrique, to protect and expand the French colonial empire during the 19th century, but it also fought in almost all French wars including the Franco-Prussian War and both World Wars. The Foreign Legion has remained an important part of the French Army, surviving three Republics, The Second French Empire, two World Wars, the rise and fall of mass conscript armies, the dismantling of the French colonial empire and the French loss of the Foreign Legion’s base, Algeria. With our luck, one of the many to sign  up for our foreign legion would be one of Bin Laden’s many offspring looking for training – the better to fight us.

This week, we require two things we do not have in our leadership:

  • Ability to make good decisions on the fly.
  • Ability to adhere to the Constitution – Congress declares war

We are exiting Iraq unceremoniously; we are entering the conflict in Africa in small numbers – at first.  Nowhere in the world do we see Russian or Chinese troops in harm’s way.  No way do we see them spending down their nation’s wealth for military ventures. However, we do see them benefiting from our protection in troublesome areas where they are constructing infrastructure to extract materials they need.  Things are so dire for us that China Daily was moved to post this article of propaganda it felt the world was ready to embrace:

‘China offers vital alternative to West’

US filmmaker: Beijing can help ensure ‘global pluralism’

NEW YORK – “China is not perfect”, but it is an alternative to a world dominated by the West, said US filmmaker Andre Vltchek.
Vltchek, who is also a novelist and political analyst, has been discovering places that are rarely covered by the mainstream Western media, and exposing disparities in today’s world.
One of his articles, titled The West Perfecting its Techniques to Hurt China, was recently translated and published in People’s Daily, a major Chinese newspaper.

“The West has absolutely no interest in human rights in China or anywhere else. How could it, considering that it is violating them on basically all continents, worldwide?” he wrote in the commentary posted a year ago on Znet, a website focusing on politics from a left-wing perspective.

Vltchek told China Daily in a recent interview that he still holds the same views today.

A naturalized US citizen born in Leningrad in the former Soviet Union, Vltchek grew up in what used to be Czechoslovakia before coming to New York at a young age to study film.

Vltchek believes that the complicated mix of blood that flows in his veins and his friends from different races and cultures, common to many US immigrants, has made him what he is today. [more – click on China Daily link above]

And there you have it.  The MSM encouraging Global demonstrations against Capitalism and the Communist papers targeted at the US brazenly sounding off about the sins of the great Satan.  One would think we were headed for another dark ages experience.  Did anyone remember to pack the picknic hamper and bring the Grey Poupon?  It will be fun watching the end of the world while we eat a slap up lunch.
