Ever read about someone you’d like to have known or know more about after they have died?  While the wife of the Archbishop of Canterbury might have been a far reach, who knows. I’ve known many people of accomplishment if not fame.

Please treat yourself to a read about this remarkable woman in her equally outstanding obituary that takes this kind of writing to the level of art form.

Her sense of humour was always irreverent. In the 1970s, when Runcie was Bishop of St Albans and the homosexual Labour MP Tom Driberg was employed by Private Eye as a compiler of obscene crosswords, it was noted that on one occasion the prize was won by a Mrs Rosalind Runcie of St Albans.
